Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho paid a visit to Blancos star Raúl Asencio in the hospital on Thursday. This comes after the latter was forced under the knife.

After exhausting all conservative treatment options on a long-term tibia injury dating back to the beginning of the year, stopper Asencio was this week informed by the Real Madrid medical staff that his complaint would require specialised surgery.

As much was subsequently carried out on Thursday morning, confirmed in the following statement released across Los Blancos’ social media platforms:

‘Our player Raúl Asencio successfully underwent surgery today performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes for a stress fracture in his right tibia. The operation was supervised by Real Madrid’s Medical Services.’

Asencio is now resting up in a hospital in Madrid, ahead of a recovery which is expected to last somewhere between two and four months.

Amid one of the more challenging stretches of his career to date, the 23-year-old was in turn shown support by his manager this afternoon. After waking from his surgery, Asencio was visited by a familiar face, in the form of none other than José Mourinho:
