Pedri speaks out on Barcelona contract talks

Barcelona star Pedri this afternoon provided an insight into his future with the club.

As much, of course, comes amid a week which has seen the Spaniard provide all associated with Barcelona with a reminder of his importance to the engine room ranks in Catalunya’s capital.

Fresh off a return from his latest spell on the sidelines through injury, Pedri was afforded his comeback appearance in the first leg of the Blaugrana’s Champions League quarter-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.

And, incredibly, it took the 21-year-old less than 60 seconds to make his mark.

Laying on Raphinha’s equaliser courtesy of a sumptuous lofted pass, Pedri proved himself the catalyst for his side’s eventual comeback triumph.

The Spanish international, as a result, was chosen as Barcelona’s player representative for the official pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s return leg.

And, alongside a whole host of topics regarding tomorrow’s matchup, Pedri was also drawn on his future.

Speculation has long spread in the media that those in a position of power at the Camp Nou are ready to open talks with their midfield starlet’s entourage, over the terms of a new long-term contract.

And, if the latest comments on the part of Pedri himself are anything to go by, it would appear that something of an unwritten agreement is already in place between the parties.

This comes with the former Las Palmas talent having pointed towards the expectation that the Barcelona brass will ‘respect what we’ve discussed previously’:

“My future at Barça? I’m really happy here. I know that Barça will respect what we’ve discussed previously. It’s the club of my dreams.”
