Pau Torres: “Lewandowski or Benzema? I’ll take Gerard Moreno.”

Pau Torres gave an interview to Radio Marca prior to their game against Lech Poznan in the Europa Conference League.

The Spanish centre-back believes that Villarreal have started to gain more respect across Europe based on their performances over the last couple of seasons:

“I think teams are starting to respect us a bit more. It’s very important and the same thing is happening in La Liga. We have to compete head-to-head with the teams at the top and try to be in the best position possible.”

“We’ve managed to start with good results, which gives us confidence as a team. It’s difficult to maintain consistency in a league like Spain’s,” he added.

Despite their recent successes, he doesn’t think that Villarreal should take the Europa Conference League for granted:

“There are very important teams like West Ham, but we don’t want to take anything for granted. We are going to compete and we want to top the group.”

When Torres was asked about whether he thinks Robert Lewandowski or Karim Benzema is better, he gave a surprising answer:

“Luckily, I’ve already been able to play against both of them. They’re different, but they’re both key players in their teams. They are very good. I’m lucky enough to train with Gerard Moreno every day, so I’ll take Gerard.”
