Pablo Barrios replaces Gabri Veiga in Spain U21 squad

Celta Vigo player Gabri Veiga saw himself having to leave the Spain U21 camp after suffering a muscular problem in training. He will be replaced by Atlético Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, as reported by Diario AS.

Veiga has been instrumental for Celta’s first team this season, registering nine goals and three assists from midfield. He’s attracting international attention, with European heavy hitters such as Manchester United and Real Madrid keeping an eye on the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, Barrios has been impressive in his own right, having earned his place in Atlético’s first team. He caught Diego Simeone’s eye shortly before the World Cup break, and has since featured in Los Rojiblanco‘s starting XI on seven occasions in 15 games.

Santi Denia, the Spain U21 coach, will already be familiar with Barrios after the two worked together in the U19 squad.
