Osasuna star sits out training before Rayo Vallecano clash

A key member of the first-choice XI at La Liga outfit Osasuna was absent from group training on Thursday afternoon.

The player in question? Sergio Herrera.

Herrera, for his part, continues to act as the no.1 option between the posts for Jagoba Arrasate’s Osasuna, having featured from the off on 27 occasions in league action across the season to date.

His participation against Rayo Vallecano this weekend, however, is very much up in the air as things stand.

This comes with the 30-year-old continuing to struggle with an injury problem suffered against Valencia last time out.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, Herrera was nowhere to be seen in group training with the rest of Osasuna’s squad earlier today.

Instead, the Spaniard was put through an individualised indoor session.

Herrera, in turn, is set to ramp up his recovery efforts on Friday, at which point it will be decided whether or not he is in a fit state to feature against Rayo Vallecano.

Should as much not prove the case, Aitor Fernández will take his place between the posts at the Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday afternoon.
