OPINION | Five best La Liga buys to start your FIFA Ultimate Team

La Liga has once again brought its share of gems to the FIFA scene. But while the likes of Vinícius Jr and Ousmane Dembélé may be too expensive at the start, there are a number of players going under the radar that are well worth spending on as you start off your FIFA Ultimate Team club.

1. Eden Hazard: 84-rated LW

The Belgian’s fall from grace is well elaborated with the fact that he belongs to the “cheap buys” list now, but he is now a brilliant option early on. Hazard boasts 80+ stats in all four major offensive categories – pace, shooting, passing and dribbling – as well as the valuable 4* skills and 4* weak-foot combo. The fact he is under 4K coins already makes him a superb starter.

2. Antoine Griezmann: 83-rated ST

The Frenchman is almost a carbon copy of Hazard, boasting the 80+ quartet and the 4*-4* combo. He starts off as a striker, but offers the variety of being deployed as a centre foreard or on the right wing. His 85 stamina means that he can play throughout the 90, and not just from the 63rd minute. Bargain at 2K coins.

3. Thomas Lemar: 83-rated CM

Perfect links are worth their weight in gold in the new chemistry format, and the Lemar-Griezmann connection at a combined price of under 5K coins is exceptional value. 82 pace, 83 passing, 87 dribbling, 4* skills, High/High workrate and the ability to play centrally or on the flanks makes him a dynamic starting option.

4. Sergi Darder: 82-rated CM

Espanyol’s midfield talisman has received an incredible upgrade from FIFA 22 to FIFA 23. Most notably +16 to his pace, taking it to 82, has made him a brilliant engine for week one squads.

5. Jesús Navas: 83-rated RB

Another FIFA, and another year where Jesús Navas remains as reliable a right-back option to start off with as anyone in the entire game. Quick and agile, 88 crossing, 4* skills and 80 stamina make him La Liga’s go-to right-back once again.

Add to the above the likes of Sergio Canales, José Gayà, Iñaki Williams and Matheus Cunha, and a more than capable La Liga base can be built for a very reasonable price to start off in FUT.
