Only one player has ever scored a faster UCL debut goal for Barcelona than Gabriel Jesus

Barcelona star Gabriel Jesus on Wednesday came within mere seconds of securing for himself an all-time Blaugrana record. This comes after the Brazilian opened his account in the colours of his new club.

Frontman Jesus of course took his talents to Barcelona last week, in a late-window transfer from Premier League champions Arsenal.

The 29-year-old, in turn, was introduced off the bench for his Blaugrana debut this past weekend, in a La Liga drubbing of Valencia. And three days later, Jesus’ continental bow for his new employers swiftly followed.

With Hansi Flick’s troops in possession of a 4-1 lead in a Champions League meeting with Feyenoord, the experienced striker was thrown into the fray late on.

And just minutes later, Jesus was on target. Rising highest inside the visitors’ penalty area, the Brazilian nodded a deft header inside the far post.

The official records show that as much came just two minutes and 14 seconds after Jesus stepped foot on the pitch. And as since revealed by statistician MisterChip, only one player has ever managed a faster Champions League debut goal for Barcelona…

The player in question? Malcom, against Inter Milan back in 2018 (1m53s).
