One Barcelona star was ‘very emotional’ after Real Betis draw

One member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was left altogether emotional on the back of the club’s meeting with Real Betis.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Frenkie de Jong as the player in question.

Midfielder De Jong for his part endured an evening to forget on Saturday.

This came en route to Barcelona’s 2-2 La Liga stalemate with the aforementioned Real Betis.

Brimming with confidence after a starring display against Mallorca in midweek, De Jong was introduced off the bench during the 2nd-half in Seville.

With Barca in possession of a one-goal advantage, however, the Dutch international was responsible for giving away a penalty, affording Betis a way back into the game.

From here, De Jong continued to struggle over the remainder of the evening, as Hansi Flick’s troops dropped two important points in the ongoing fight for the La Liga title.

Post-match, the 27-year-old, in turn, was singled out for widespread criticism, amid what has proven a difficult individual campaign to date.

And, as per the aforementioned Sport, De Jong was left heavily affected by as much:

‘De Jong left the Villamarín very emotionally affected. He felt guilty and so he transferred it to one of his colleagues with a tone of apology.’
