A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was targeted by the club’s supporters en route to their victory over Stade Brestois on Tuesday.
The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona of course marked their return to action on the continent last night, welcoming Ligue 1 outfit Brest to Catalunya’s capital for a Champions League clash.
When all was said and done on a fine evening’s work for the Blaugrana, they emerged on the right side of a 3-0 result, owing to goals on the part of Robert Lewandowski (2), and Dani Olmo.
And yet, as alluded to above, the performance put forth by their side on the evening did not stop certain sections of the Barca faithful from taking aim at one of the club’s stars.
After being introduced to the fray late on at Montjuïc, Frenkie de Jong was the subject of whistles and jeers from the crowd on each occasion he touched the ball.
As much comes after De Jong was widely accused of a lack of effort and commitment to the cause, en route to the Catalans’ 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo at the weekend.
