Veteran left-back Yuri Berchiche put pen to paper on a new deal at Athletic Club, which commits him to the club until June 2025 with an option to extend for an additional year.
The defender, whose contact was set to expire in the summer, has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club for another year, with the option of an additional season if he makes a set number of appearances next season in the league. In recent weeks striker Gorko Guruzeta and fellow defender Aitor Parades have committed their future to Athletic.
Yuri developed in the Athletic youth system before leaving the club on loan on several occasions to gain experience. The 34-year-old went on loan to Real Valladolid where he impressed and subsequently joined Real Sociedad.
After impressing in San Sebastian, Yuri joined Paris Saint-Germain before eventually returning to Athletic in 2018 for €20m. Since then he has made more than 200 first-team appearances, scoring 14 goals during this period.
