Official: Villarreal announce Marcelino exit after UCL qualification

La Liga outfit Villarreal have on Monday announced the impending departure of head coach Marcelino.

This comes amid confirmation of the parties having reached a mutual agreement to end their relationship upon the season’s close.

As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Yellow Submarine:

‘Villarreal CF and the Asturian coach will part ways at the end of the season. Thank you from the heart, Marce, for everything you’ve given to this club and to this fanbase. We wish you all the best in your future sporting endeavors.’

News of Marcelino’s exit comes fresh off Villarreal securing their place in the Champions League for the 2026/27 campaign.

The Castellón-based outfit currently sit 3rd in the La Liga table, trailing only Spanish football’s two leading clubs, in Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Next time out, though, Villarreal will head in a new direction, with hopes of further success to come.
