The Spanish national team coaching staff have on Sunday named their replacement for Pedro Porro in the country’s latest squad. This comes amid confirmation of Iván Fresneda being set for a likely senior debut on the international stage.
Luis de la Fuente’s reigning world champions were dealt a blow on the personnel front earlier this weekend. After Pedro Porro was forced off during Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa, the defender was ruled out for the weeks ahead.
With Marcos Llorente having recently announced his retirement from international football, La Roja were in turn left short on options at right-back.
On Sunday, it has therefore come as little surprise to see right-sided reinforcements called up to Luis de la Fuente’s setup.
As per a statement across the Spanish national team’s official social media platforms, after he was initially selected as part of the country’s U21 setup for the upcoming international break:
‘Luis de la Fuente has called up Sporting Lisbon’s Iván Fresneda to play in the first four matches of the UEFA Nations League group stage. The Madrid-born right-back will join the Spanish national team’s training camp, which begins on Tuesday, September 22nd at 1:00 PM at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas.’
