Official: Real Madrid summer signing handed first senior call-up for Real Betis clash

A member of the summer recruitment drive at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Thursday been afforded his first call-up to a senior matchday squad in Spain’s capital.

The Blancos addition in question? Sergio Martínez.

Youngster Martínez of course took his place centre stage in the transfer chatter across Spain during the final days of the recently-closed summer transfer window.

After bursting onto the La Liga landscape over the season’s early weeks on the books of newly-promoted Racing Santander, the 19-year-old caught the eye of a number of Spanish football’s leading clubs.

It was Real Madrid, though, who made clear their intention to bring Martínez to the Bernabéu with immediate effect. This culminated in an agreement on the terms of a transfer quickly being worked out, before the midfield starlet linked up with his new teammates at Valdebebas this week.

And as alluded to above, despite being expected to spend the majority of the upcoming season plying his trade at reserve-team level, Martínez has on Thursday been afforded a first-team call.

The Spanish youth international has been included in José Mourinho’s travelling squad to face Real Betis on Friday evening:
