Official: Real Madrid announce key contract renewal

La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Friday confirmed that a key member of the club’s first-team squad has put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club.

The player in question? Andriy Lunin.

Goalkeeper Lunin’s future, of course, was considered as having been thrown altogether back up in the air this past summer.

As much came after the Ukrainian international’s swift demotion back to 2nd-choice behind Thibaut Courtois culminated in suggestions that he was giving consideration to a new challenge.

In the end, however, despite widespread interest in his services, Lunin was evidently convinced that the best route forward involved staying put in Spain’s capital.

In turn, as per a statement across Real Madrid’s website and social media platforms on Friday, the 25-year-old has penned a new contract, committing his long-term future to Carlo Ancelotti’s side:

‘Real Madrid CF and Andriy Lunin have agreed to extend our player’s contract, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030.’
