An oft-overlooked member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.
The player in question? Andreas Christensen.
Defender Christensen is for his part fresh off another injury-plagued campaign in Catalunya’s capital in 2025/26. Owing to a fresh string of problems on the fitness front, the Danish international managed just four starts across all competitions.
For some time, the assumption, in turn, was that he would be allowed to depart on a free transfer this summer.
Recent weeks, however, saw a series of reports come to the fore, confirming that Barcelona had opened talks with Christensen’s entourage over a new deal.
And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, such negotiations have officially borne fruit for the two parties.
As per a statement across the Blaugrana’s social media platforms, in a declaration of faith on the part of manager Hansi Flick, Christensen has signed a new contract through the summer of 2028.
