Official | Julen Lopetegui sacked by Sevilla

Sevilla have announced the sacking of head coach Julen Lopetegui.

The Basque coach’s reign in Andalusia ended after the club’s 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

He took charge of 170 games at the club, leaving having won a UEFA Europa League title, and guiding the club to their highest top flight points record.

He is only behind Joaquín Caparrós, Unai Emery, Manolo Cardo and Ramón Encinas in the all-time managerial appearance list.

He leaves with 89 wins, 45 draws and 35 defeats, which also puts him in third place in terms of wins, behind only Caparrós and Emery.

In an official club statement, Sevilla said: “The club wish to underline and thank the Basque coach for his professionalism and hard work in the more than three years he spent at the club, as well as wishing him the best of luck and the best of success in his future endeavours”.
