La Liga outfit Getafe have on Tuesday announced a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks at senior level. This comes amid confirmation of the signing of Saba Sazonov.
Sazonov, for those not familiar with his name, is a 24-year-old defender, who chiefly lines out at the heart of defence.
Once considered a highly-regarded up-and-coming talent, the last couple of years of the Georgian international’s career have been nothing short of ruined by injury.
After linking up with Serie A outfit Empoli on loan in the summer of 2024, Sazonov suffered a severe ACL tear in training. After spending the entirety of the ensuing campaign on the sidelines, the stopper was then halted in his comeback efforts by a series of further setbacks this past season.
As alluded to above, though, following the expiration of his contract terms with Torino, Sazonov has been afforded the opportunity to rebuild his career over the coming weeks and months in La Liga.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Spanish outfit Getafe:
‘Getafe CF have reached an agreement with Georgian international defender Saba Sazonov, who joins the club to bolster the first team’s defense for the upcoming season. The arrival of the center-back represents a significant boost for José Bordalás’s side, adding youth, physicality, and potential to their back line.’
