Official: Barcelona star signs contract extension

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday announced a contract extension for a leading member of the club’s backline.

The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.

Stopper Iñigo has for his part of course played a starring role for Barcelona across the season to date.

After taking advantage of the early-season injury problems at the heart of the Blaugrana’s backline, the 33-year-old has established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of boss Hansi Flick.

All told, Iñigo has racked up 33 appearances across all competitions, all but one of which came in the form of a start.

With not only his defensive qualities, but technical and leadership abilities shining through, too, it should in turn come as little surprise to hear of the former Athletic Club man this week being rewarded.

As per a statement across Barcelona’s official website and social media platforms, the one-year extension option in Iñigo’s contract has been activated.

The defender is therefore tied to terms in Catalunya’s capital through the summer of 2026.
