Official: Barcelona legend Lionel Messi secures another individual award

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has this week secured for himself yet another prestigious individual prize.

This of course comes fresh off the Argentine conquering Major League Soccer.

Messi’s Inter Miami put the Vancouver Whitecaps to the sword in the MLS Cup final this past weekend, to add yet another team trophy to his burgeoning cabinet.

And in the aftermath of as much, Messi’s contributions over the course of the 2025 campaign have been deservedly recognised.

The 38-year-old, despite his advancing years, was by some distance the standout performer across the length of the MLS season.

All told, Messi racked up a staggering 71 direct goal contributions, by way of 43 goals, and 28 assists.

And such exploits have culminated in the eight-time Ballon d’Or being named MLS MVP.

Messi received his Player of the Year trophy on Tuesday, as the accolades continue to pour in for the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots.
