‘Not the type of coach to sign for 3 years’ – Hansi Flick speaks out on Barcelona future

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Friday provided a fresh insight into his future with the club.

The subject of Flick’s situation in Catalunya’s capital has proven a prominent one in the Spanish media headlines over recent days.

This comes amid claims that the Barcelona brass have begun actively working towards tying the club’s headmaster down to fresh terms.

During his latest pre-match press conference on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the possibility of as much was put to Flick himself.

And the German’s response proved an altogether interesting one.

Fresh off keeping alive hopes of a historic treble on the Blaugrana bench in midweek, Flick confirmed that, whilst he is more than happy in Barcelona, he is also highly unlikely to pen a long-term contract:

“I’m really enjoying my time here. The staff, the players, everyone — they’re unbelievable. The atmosphere is fantastic, like a family. I love living in Barcelona, and I’m full of energy and ideas to keep improving this team. But I’m not the type of coach who signs a 3-year deal just to feel secure. I want to work for this club, the best club in the world — step by step, paso a paso. Right now, it’s one year… then we’ll see. If everyone’s happy, we move forward together. But I’m focused on the present — we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
