Athletic Club star Nico Williams has on Saturday provided an insight into his decision to ultimately stay put with the club this summer.
The name of wide-man Williams, of course, took its place front and centre in the media headlines through the recently-closed transfer window.
This came with the 22-year-old’s continued excellence for club and country alike having sparked widespread interest in his signature.
Barcelona, for one, pushed hard to bring Nico in for much of the summer, eager to unite the Spanish international with close friend Lamine Yamal.
In the end, however, the player came to the decision to stay put in Bilbao.
Not only that, but he recently took ownership of the no.10 jersey in Ernesto Valverde’s squad, reiterating Williams’ commitment to the cause.
Speaking to DAZN on Saturday, however, it nevertheless came as little surprise when the subject of the summer frenzy surrounding his future was put to the attacker once more.
And Williams’ response, as cited by The Athletic, proved an altogether interesting one:
“There were approaches from many clubs. I did well at the Euros and that’s a great showcase.
“I had many clubs to choose from but my heart is with Athletic Club. I’m happy here and I’m very happy here.”
He concluded:
“God knows what will happen in the future.”
