Nico Williams: A star for the next decade

Nico Williams announced himself on the world stage on Saturday night with an MVP performance in a winning effort against Mallorca to win Athletic Club’s first major trophy in 40 years in the Copa del Rey Final.

The 21-year-old played all 120 minutes in the match which saw the Basque outfit beat the side from the Balearic Islands 4-2 on penalties after being tied 1-1 after extra time.

Nico’s main contribution came in the 50th minute of the tie when he won the ball back in midfield and assisted Oihan Sancet’s goal which dragged Athletic Club back into the tie after trailing at half-time.

Many media outlets have been crediting the youngster’s performances, both in this match and in the run to the final, as cementing his position on the world’s footballing stage for decades to come.

One such glowing assessment comes courtesy of Marca, who have described him as one of Europe’s most-wanted players and that ‘Europe is getting it’s wallet ready‘ for him.
