Newcastle United make contact for Valencia star

A headline member of the first-team ranks at Valencia is the subject of interest from Premier League outfit Newcastle United.

That’s according to Relevo, who point towards Giorgi Mamardashvili as being the player in question.

Mamardashvili, for his part, has of course seen his name take its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines over recent days, for altogether less than positive reasons.

This comes after the Georgian was dismissed from Valencia’s La Liga meeting with Barcelona owing to a serious individual blunder.

On Thursday, though, Mamardashvili has returned to the forefront of the news for all the right reasons.

As much comes amid claims that the 23-year-old’s form across the season as a whole has piqued the attentions of the aforementioned Newcastle United.

As per Relevo, a whole host of clubs from across the continent have been keeping a close eye on Mamardashvili’s development for some time now.

Only one, though, have gone as far as to make their interest known to Valencia – Newcastle.

The Magpies have sent scouts to watch the shot-stopper in action on no fewer than five occasions this season, with a view to a summer bid.

It remains to be seen whether as much is ultimately forthcoming, likely to depend on the efforts of Eddie Howe’s side to secure European football for next season.

Mamardashvili, for his part, would be keen on the prospect of taking his talents to St. James’ Park, albeit with it also noted that the Valencia man, as things stand, remains more than happy at Mestalla.
