New Sevilla manager Diego Alonso adds to backroom staff

Diego Alonso has made his first signing for Sevilla and it is not a player. The head coach from Montevideo arrived in Seville without his own coaching staff, as almost all of those who accompanied him on his last adventure with the Uruguay national team are committed to other clubs, including Atlético Madrid’s fitness coach, Professor Ortega.

But the new Sevilla boss has decided to bring in a physio he trusts. As AS report, Guilherme Rodrigues’ role will go far beyond physical preparation on the pitch. He is a man with a knowledge of physiology applied to sport. He has already worked alongside Alonso with Uruguay and also in Mexico, with clubs Pachuca and Rayados. Among other things, Rodrigues will aim to match the eating and resting habits of Sevilla’s players in search of optimal physical performance.

“How big are your dreams? Is there a limit? I don’t think so. Today begins a new professional chapter, the start of our first European project with Sevilla FC. Thank you once again Diego Alonso for your trust. May we be worthy of this great opportunity. Never give up,” the Brazilian wrote on his Instagram account, along with a photo of the Sevilla shirt.

Alongside the Uruguayan coach, Rodrigues has won two CONCACAF Champions Leagues and one Liga MX title with Pachuca.
