National team boss confirms Barcelona star ‘is not at his best level’

Dutch national team boss Ronald Koeman has on Monday provided his take on the current form of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong, for his part, has today linked up with his compatriots for the November international break.

Despite having been forced into a premature departure from Barcelona’s La Liga defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad on Sunday, the former Ajax standout was given the green light to return to the Dutch fold following a lengthy absence through injury.

Speaking to the media in anticipation of his side’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Hungary and Bosnia & Herzegovina, the aforementioned Ronald Koeman was therefore drawn on De Jong’s level at present.

It should be remembered that the 27-year-old was just last week afforded his first start of the 2024/25 campaign.

And ex-Barca headmaster Koeman, honest as ever, went on to admit that:

“I don’t think Frenkie de Jong is at his best level yet.”
