Napoli could throw Barcelona a major curveball for Champions League tie

Serie A giants Napoli are considering a change on the club’s bench, just days out from their upcoming meeting with Barcelona.

That’s according to journalist Matteo Moretto (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), who has today provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Napoli, for their part, find themselves in the midst of a dismal stretch of form at present.

After being held to a 1-1 stalemate by Genoa in Serie A at the weekend, the Partenopei made it just one win in five, and two in 11 stretching back to mid-December.

As much has come under the watch of Walter Mazzarri, brought back by Aurelio De Laurentiis upon Rudi Garcia being sent on his way earlier in the campaign.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, though, then Mazzarri, too, could find himself imminently out of a job.

As per the aforementioned Matteo Moretto, the powers that be in Naples are giving serious consideration to sacking Mazzarri, before Wednesday’s Champions League Last-16 first leg meeting with Spanish giants Barcelona.

In fact, contacts have already been made with Slovakia head coach Francesco Calzona, who has been identified as the early favourite to take up the reins in Naples in the case of Mazzarri being sent on his way.
