Mikel Arteta keen on Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to bring Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey to the Emirates Stadium, according to Diario AS.

The Ghanaian international, who has a €50m release clause had been set to sign a contract extension that would have doubled his clause to €100m but that deal hasn’t been signed yet. Thomas has been one of the club’s top-performing players in the 2019-20 campaign. The 26-year-old signed a five-year contract with Atlético in January 2018 and talks are reportedly ongoing between the player’s representatives and the Madrid club regarding a salary increase and new contract.

Spanish coach Arteta is said to be a fan of the box-to-box midfielder, who made his first-team debut for Atlético in November 2015. It is believed that The Gunners head coach is keen to add ball-playing midfielders to his team this summer. Partey also adds defensive cover to Diego Simeone’s side. “Atleti is my home but you never know where one could end up,” Thomas recently explained in an interview with Diario AS.
