The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to recognise the increasing prominence of youngster Lamine Yamal in the club’s first-team setup by way of a new jersey number.
That’s according to the reliable Catalunya Radio, who have this evening provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes at Barcelona.
Lamine, of course, is in the midst of another whirlwind week, which saw the gifted wide-man first prove himself the difference-maker courtesy of a stunning strike en route to a 1-0 La Liga downing of Mallorca:
And this was followed on Tuesday night by a dazzling performance on the continent, both the Spanish international and fellow La Masia graduate Pau CubarsĂ playing pivotal roles in Barca battling past Napoli to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Still just 16 years of age, it has in turn come as little surprise to hear of word stemming from Catalunya’s capital that Lamine is widely considered to be the best attacking talent produced by La Masia since the great Lionel Messi.
And, if the latest update stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, as much could soon see the winger’s place in the Blaugrana’s long-term plans aptly recognised.
As per the aforementioned Cat Radio, the Barca board are giving serious consideration to handing Lamine the club’s iconic no.10 shirt with a view to next season.
The jersey, most famously worn by the aforementioned Messi, is currently held by Ansu Fati – on loan in England with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Though there remain some doubters in the boardroom at the Camp Nou, owing chiefly to Lamine’s tender years, there are others who are ready to push for the Spaniard to be crowned the club’s new 10 as soon as possible.
This comes with a view to not only matters on the pitch, but off it, by way of sponsorship and advertising, too.
