Memphis Depay is open to the idea of joining Atlético Madrid from Barcelona this January, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Following João Félix’s departure from the Estadio Metropolitano earlier this week to Chelsea, Los Colchoneros have begun their search for a replacement.
Initially Atlético Madrid were considering Borja Iglesias, but it appears as though Real Betis’ €40m price tag has put off Diego Simeone’s side from continuing to pursue a deal for El Panda.
Thus, Atléti have shifted their attention to Depay. On Tuesday it was communicated that Los Colchoneros’ board have made contact with the Blaugrana about the possibility of signing the Dutchman this month and according to the Italian journalist, negotiations are well under way.
Depay has been struggling for minutes under Xavi these last couple of months at the Camp Nou and despite a decent showing at the World Cup, the 28-year-old has only played in four games so far this season in all competitions.
