Martín Zubimendi: “Sooner or later, there will be an agreement with Real Sociedad.”

Martín Zubimendi and Real Sociedad are close to reaching an agreement for a new contract, according to the midfielder.

Zubimendi has grown into a key figure at La Real, and in an interview with Marca, said that his representative agency and the club are inching towards a renewal.

“I don’t believe that negotiations are something that need to be done quickly, because details could be overlooked. The two parties are heading in the same direction, and sooner or later, there will be an agreement.”

When queried about links to the giants of the Spanish game, Zubimendi was humble in response.

“It is always a good sign to be linked with more attractive teams, but there is a lot of difference between rumour and truth. Sometimes, there are rumours which do not translate into offers. Therefore, I don’t think much about this.”

When asked if the return of Asier Illaramendi caused any doubt in him about his playing time, Zubimendi affirmed that the competition for the holding midfield spot in the team only improves their game.

“You always have to be prepared to perform at your best, because with the competition, you can lose your spot. I knew Illara would play well, but I fought to play again. I think the competition between Asier, Ander (Guevara) and I makes the three of us better.”
