Marcos Llorente set to miss the Madrid derby

Marcos Llorente will not be able to play in Atlético Madrid’s Copa del Rey fixture against Real Madrid, report AS.

In an all-round great team performance, Los Colchoneros comfortably beat Real Valladolid 3-0 last Saturday in La Liga.

However, supporters were worried when Llorente, who was so instrumental in the league title win in 2021, had to be substituted in the 56th minute.

Tests carried out by the club’s medical staff confirmed the initial concerns as the Spaniard suffered an injury in the adductor muscles.

The injury means that Llorente is set to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks and he will most definitely miss Atlético Madrid’s crucial Copa del Rey quarter-final fixture against Los Blancos at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday night.

Having been knocked out of all European competitions in the autumn, it is the only tournament that Diego Simeone’s men can realistically win this season.
