Speaking to Radio MARCA ahead of Spain’s upcoming UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland, Atlético Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente admitted head coach Diego Simeone has had a big influence on his new-found form and more attacking role.

Simeone discovered me and I reinvented myself. You can put a player in and not give up [on them]; he has his share of the blame and I have mine.

The former Real Madrid player made his Spain debut against the Netherlands midweek and has made it clear that he has had to adjust Simeone’s style at Atlético and Luis Enrique’s with the national side.

I have been told the same as at the club; I have to adapt to the style of play and every coach has one. We are also facing two different ideas in terms of style, but they ask you to adapt as much as possible to that, as well as to your teammates.”
