Marc Cucurella earns first Spain call-up in nearly three years

Marc Cucurella has been called up by Spanish national team to replace Jose Gayà. The Spaniard returned to action for 90 minutes last week and scored a goal yesterday in the FA Cup match between Chelsea and Leicester City.

The left-back opened the scoring for Chelsea in their dramatic 4-2 win over Championship side Leicester. This was his first goal for the club since joining over 20 months ago. The defender isn’t known for his goalscoring prowess with just nine goals in over 250 appearances in his professional career.

This will be the 25-year-old’s first Spain call-up in nearly three years. For the first time since August 2021, Cucurella recieved the call to confirm that he is joining the national team for the two upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Brazil.

As well as adding to his one career cap so far, the Spaniard will also be hoping to impress to boost his chances of earning a place in the squad for the Euros this summer.
