Marc-André ter Stegen makes Barcelona history with start against Valencia

Marc-André ter Stegen has become a history-maker with his start against Valencia in La Liga on Monday night.

This information comes courtesy of Barcelona’s social media, who point out that with his start on Monday night, the German has the second-highest number of appearances of any foreign player for Barcelona.

The start for Ter Stegen is his 408th between the sticks for Barcelona, with only Lionel Messi (778 games) outdoing him.

After the German stopper, the next highest number of appearances for a foreign Barcelona player are from Javier Mascherano (334 games) and Phillip Cocu (292 games).

Ter-stegen’s night didn’t get off to the best start, as an error on his behalf allowed Hugo Duro to equalise for Valencia.

Things could have been worse for the goalkeeper however, as his opposite number for Valencia was shown a red card in the dying minutes of the first-half for a handball outside the area.
