Manuel Pellegrini: “If I see Dani Ceballos, I’ll greet him and that’s it.”

Manuel Pellegrini has been tight-lipped about his summer transfer window plans. Despite Real Betis being heavily linked to Real Madrid midfielders Isco and Dani Ceballos, among others, Pellegrini suggested that transfer business would only take priority after the final league game against Real Madrid.

When asked about the possibility of Ceballos’ transfer to the Villamarín ahead of the game, as transcribed by Estadio Deportivo, Pellegrini said: “Only after the game against Real Madrid will we start planning, keeping in mind the economic reality and the players that we need. Tomorrow I’m not going to be thinking of that. If I see Ceballos, I’ll greet him and that’s it.”

Pellegrini did reveal that he plans to talk with the board after the game: “If the president and the sporting director are on the plane, we will talk. We need to think about the structure of the squad.”

The Chilean manager also commented about the Europa League final, a competition where Betis were eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual champions Eintracht Frankfurt.

“I watched the final and I don’t think either team were at their best. They seemed very stressed. Although we would’ve liked to reach the final, as we always do when we play a competition, I’ve said before that the elimination helped us win the Copa del Rey. We already had 10 games in 40 days without it, and we were feeling the physical and emotional wear.”
