Manchester City set to prioritise Rodri’s contract renewal in an effort to fend off interest from Real Madrid

Just off the back of Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win, Premier League giants Manchester City are set to make an effort to tie down their superstar and fend off interest from potential suitors elsewhere.

Despite Rodri’s previous allegiances to Atlético Madrid having come up through the club’s youth academy, Man City are fearful that their rivals Real Madrid could take an interest in the midfield star.

That’s according to Cadena SER, who are reporting that the English club have began looking to the horizon of 2027, when Rodri’s contract is set to retire.

Real Madrid have shown they have no issues in making the most of midfielders in the latter stages of their careers, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos dominating midfield for Los Blancos in recent years.

Rodri could possibly even be seen as a potential replacement for Toni Kroos, who Real Madrid have struggled to replace following the German’s retirement at the end of last season.

Man City are optimistic that they can get a new deal for Rodri across the line and announced before the end of this season, which would likely put Real Madrid off any attempt to make a move for the 28-year-old.
