Mallorca wonderkid Luka Romero: “There’s only one Messi.”

Speaking to 90 minutos on Fox Sports, Mallorca wonderkid Luka Romero admitted he doesn’t enjoy being compared to Lionel Messi.

Yes, it annoys me because there’s only one Messi and I want to make my own name in football as Luka Romero.”

The 15-year-old became the youngest La Liga debutant in history when he came on as a second half substitute against Real Madrid in June.

Romero also discussed his origins, explaining that he would like to play for Argentina, where his parents are from, despite being born in Mexico and also being eligible to represent Spain.

I was born in Mexico but my family is from Argentina. I have three nationalities but if they keep on wanting me in Argentina, I will keep playing for Argentina, if it’s possible. I like to play as a No.10. At Mallorca, we play with a No.10. If not, on the right. I improved a lot when I arrived here, I improved a lot with my right foot, which I wasn’t using before.”
