Lunin vs Courtois: Carlo Ancelotti confirms goalkeeper plans for Real Madrid vs Bayern

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Tuesday confirmed his goalkeeper plans for the club’s upcoming showdown with Bayern Munich.

The subject of the situation between the posts has of course emerged as a headline talking point in Spain’s capital over the course of recent days.

This comes after Real no.1 Thibaut Courtois marked his return to the pitch following a near-nine month absence this past weekend.

Not only that, but the Belgian went on to impress, en route to a clean sheet in a 3-0 La Liga downing of Cádiz.

Such exploits on Courtois’ part had in turn given rise to murmurs in the media that he could be thrown back in from the off on Wednesday night, too.

As much comes as Los Blancos prepare to play host to Bayern Munich, in the 2nd leg of the Champions League semi-final tie between the clubs.

Such a development would of course prove a difficult one to stomach for Andriy Lunin, who has performed superbly in Courtois’ absence over recent months.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference this afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his upcoming plans between the posts was put to Real headmaster Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian tactician, though, did not hesitate in confirming that Lunin is in line for an immediate return to starting duties:

“Lunin will start versus Bayern. Even if Courtois played a great game (against Cádiz), the plan was for Lunin to start tomorrow.”
