Luka Modrić hopes trip to Serbia helps recovery for crucial period with Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modrić made a trip to Belgrade on Thursday with the aim of returning to action as soon as possible.

The Croatian picked up a hamstring injury in the 4-2 defeat to Girona, which forced him to be substituted in the 63rd minute.

Modrić will miss two crucial upcoming games for Madrid: the Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on Saturday 6 May and the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals against Manchester City on Tuesday 9 May.

According to Relevo via Serbian sports outlet Sportklub, the Croatian travelled to the Serbian capital to be treated by the famous ‘miracle doctor’ Marijana Kovacevic, who among other athletes, successfully treated Novak Djokovic at the last Australian Open, where the Serbian tennis player arrived with questions over his physical condition and ended up winning the title.

Modrić was expected to be out for around four weeks but with this visit to Serbia, he would like to be back in under two weeks’ time.
