Luis Suárez admitted to Movistar that he knew he would not celebrate against former club Barcelona if he scored on Saturday.
“I knew if I scored I wasn’t going to celebrate,” the Uruguayan said.
When asked about his phone call gesture towards the stands, Suárez said: “It was for people who know that I have the same number and that I am still using the phone. It was not for Koeman; I was joking with my children that I would do that.”
Suárez assisted Thomas Lemar for the first goal of the night, before grabbing Atlético’s second before half-time. Los Colchoneros held out for a 2-0 home win.
