Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui on shortlist for Manchester United job

Sky Sports report that Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui are among the favourites for the Manchester United job alongside Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino.

Lopetegui has coached Porto, Spain and Real Madrid before joining Sevilla, and is used to managing big-name players. The Basque manager has a contract with Sevilla until 2024 and Monchi, Sevilla’s sporting director, insists that he intends to keep him at the Andalusian club for “as many years as possible”.

The option of Luis Enrique appears to be even more complex, as he has is focused on managing Spain at the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

The former Barcelona manager had a brilliant European Championship with La Roja last year, taking them to the semi-finals, and with a more mature team now, he will be hoping to achieve something special at this year’s World Cup.

According to Sky Sports, Pochettino and Ten Hag are the most likely to end up on the bench at Old Trafford. The Argentinian has failed again in his attempt to win the Champions League and although PSG are leading Ligue 1 and will probably win the title, the 3-0 defeat in Monaco last weekend does not help his chances of staying in Paris.
