Luis de la Fuente renews with Spanish national team until 2026

On Tuesday evening, The RFEF announced that Spanish national team manager Luis de la Fuente has renewed his contract until at least 2026.

This news comes as Spain prepare to head to Germany to take part in Euro 2024, which kicks off on June 14th.

The manager’s previous contract was due to run out while the European Championships will still be taking place.

Luis de la Fuente took over as Spain boss in December of 2022, after Luis Enrique was sacked following a disappointing showing for Spain at the 2022 World Cup.

The manager oversaw La Roja’s winning Nations League campaign in 2023, although this year’s European Championships are expected to be his biggest test as Spain coach so far.

In his 13 matches as Spain boss, Luis de la Fuente has overseen nine wins, two draws and two losses, alongside several successful spells at the reins of a variety of Spanish youth sides, including a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

His expert knowledge of the youth setups of Spanish football seems to go hand-in-hand with the overall strategy of La Selección, which is looking to bring through the next generation of world-beaters.
