Luciano Vietto set for Villarreal return

Villarreal have been working for weeks on their squad for the 2023-24 season. According to a report produced by Mundo Deportivo, the return of Luciano Vietto is going to be announced for the summer.

The 29-year-old Argentinian striker has reportedly reached an agreement whereby he will join the Yellow Submarine on a free transfer in June.

Vietto, who played for Marcelino’s Villarreal side in the 2014-15 season and who came close to becoming a Barça player while playing for Atlético Madrid, would arrive for free from Saudi club Al-Hilal, who have just played in the Club World Cup, losing the final to Real Madrid (5-3).

The striker scored two of his team’s three goals and finished as the tournament’s third top scorer with three goals.

He already knows La Liga – having also played for Sevilla, Atlético and Valencia before having spells in England (Fulham) and Portugal (Sporting CP).

Vietto is currently valued at €2.8m, according to Transfermarkt, and this season he has scored 8 goals in 15 games in a total of 800 minutes.

Villarreal were the first European team to sign Vietto, who came to La Liga from Racing Club’s youth academy in Argentina.
