Liverpool star Van Dijk drawn on possible Real Madrid move next summer

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk was on Wednesday night involved in a viral exchange with a Spanish journalist.

As much came with the Dutchman fresh off leading his teammates to a Champions League victory over La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Van Dijk played a starring role for Liverpool on the night, in the process no doubt drawing admiring glances from a Real Madrid coaching staff who currently find themselves badly lacking in options at the back.

Speaking to the media post-match, the 33-year-old was in turn drawn on the possibility of taking his talents to Spain’s capital.

Van Dijk is due to see his contract terms with Liverpool expire next summer, meaning, as things stand, the former Southampton man is set to become a free agent.”What a direct question… They don’t ask me that directly. I have nothing to say. I’m focused on the next game (against Manchester City),”

The exchange to have taken place between El Chiringuito TV’s Edu Aguirre, and Van Dijk, as cited by Marca, is detailed in full below:

EA. “What will happen with your future? Are you going to stay at Liverpool?”

VvD. “What a direct question… They don’t ask me that directly. I have nothing to say. I’m focused on the next game (against Manchester City).”

EA: “Real Madrid needs centre-backs…”

VvD: “I don’t know…”

EA: “Yes, yes… Because Militão and Alaba are injured.”

VvD: “Well, but Antonio Rüdiger is there…”

EA: “You to Real Madrid?”

VvD: “When?”

EA: “This summer?”

VvD: “This summer? As I told you, I’m only focusing on City now…”
