Liverpool star Darwin Núñez ‘said yes to Barcelona before’

An interesting side note in the ongoing transfer saga linking Liverpool star Darwin Núñez with a move to Barcelona has been highlighted in the Spanish media this week.

The name of Uruguayan international Núñez has of course positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the week to date.

This comes amid mounting claims that the frontman has made his way into the sights of the powers that be at La giants Barcelona.

Amid suggestions that the Blaugrana would be willing to cash in on the aging Robert Lewandowski this summer, Núñez has been tipped as a leading candidate to replace the Pole.

The 24-year-old, who has long divided opinion across the continent, only added to the speculation surrounding his name on Monday, in suddenly removing all Liverpool-related content from his official social media platforms.

Those of a Barcelona persuasion who were not aware, may in turn be interested to hear of the fact that Núñez actually gave the green light to a move to the Camp Nou several years ago.

As per a report from Diario Sport, prior to linking up with Benfica back in the summer of 2020, the attacker said ‘yes’ to Barcelona.

The Blaugrana’s financial constraints ultimately saw the transfer fall through, but Sport assure that the significance of Núñez’s prior commitment should not be overlooked.

This comes with it added that he maintains a keen fondness for the Catalan club, whom he is ready to ‘prioritise’ a move to with a view to next season.
