Premier League giants Liverpool have seen their hopes of landing Barcelona star Marc Bernal dashed. This comes amid widespread confirmation that the youngster has agreed to a new long-term contract in Catalunya’s capital.
Liverpool, it is understood, are one of a number of clubs to have expressed an interest in luring Bernal away from Barcelona of late.
Reds head coach Andoni Iraola is a keen admirer of the talents of his fellow countryman, with those in a position of power at Anfield having therefore been readying a move for his signature.
According to English outlet TEAMtalk, as cited by Diario Sport:
‘The English club planned to offer around €60 million in the summer of 2027.’
Liverpool, along with any other clubs with hope of convincing Bernal of the merits of a future away from Hansi Flick’s squad, however, will need to look elsewhere for reinforcements in the middle of the park.
The 19-year-old has agreed to the terms of a new deal with Barcelona through the summer of 2031, featuring a €500 million release clause.
