Lionel Messi trains alone ahead of World Cup

Argentina are keeping a close eye on Lionel Messi in their first days of World Cup preparation in Qatar.

As reported by AS, Messi has arrived with a niggle and for the second day in a row, the Argentine star didn’t work with the Argentina squad, although he did train alone.

Messi’s problems with PSG were related to his Achilles tendon. According to Argentina, this will not prevent him from playing against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. It’s now a matter of workload management for the national team’s backroom staff.

With PSG, he didn’t play the match against Lorient for the same reason. The aim is for the PSG forward to feel as comfortable as possible during what will be his fifth World Cup.

Messi comes into the World Cup in fine form, scoring 10 goals in the last four games for the national team.

Whether he will be at full fitness or not for Argentina’s first game remains to be seen.
