Lionel Messi will be a Barcelona player from next July, according to journalist Veronica Brunati.
The former Barça captain’s current deal with PSG expires on 30 June 2023 and the Argentine journalist reports that Messi will be a Barça player once again from 1 July 2023.
Messi left Camp Nou for PSG in 2021 after the La Liga club were unable to renew his deal due to ongoing financial trouble.
Asked if the club could now afford to bring their former captain back to the club, Barcelona’s economic vice president Eduard Romeu recently told Catalunya Radio: “It would be possible financially because if he returned, it would be as a free agent. But it’s a decision that has to be made by the coaching staff and the player. It doesn’t correspond to me [to make those decisions], but it would be viable.”
Brunati has not yet released any further details on the possible return of Messi to the La Liga giants.
