The powers overseeing Portuguese football have on Friday afforded a helping hand to one of the country’s top clubs, in Benfica.
This comes in a bid to afford the capital club the best possible chance of advancing in their upcoming European tie.
Benfica of course discovered their opponents for the Last-16 of the Champions League earlier today, set to face off with La Liga table-toppers Barcelona.
It is the latter, who actually secured victory at Benfica just last month, who will head into the tie boasting understandable favourite status.
As alluded to above, the Liga Portugal have in turn moved to show their support for Bruno Lage’s underdogs.
As confirmed on Friday evening, Benfica’s upcoming fixture list has been altered, with the club no longer pencilled in for an outing on the weekend of the 1st/2nd of March.
This will afford the Lisbon-based outfit a full week’s worth of rest, before playing host to Barcelona on March 5th.
