Las Palmas dealt injury blow before Osasuna matchup

La Liga outfit Las Palmas have this week been afforded a blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation of the extent of the injury picked up by key defender Álex Suárez over the weekend.

Suárez was for his part afforded a starting berth on Sunday, as Las Palmas played host to Athletic Club in a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the day’s hosts found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline, despite a valiant 2nd-half comeback effort.

As alluded to above, though, the eventual result in Gran Canaria did not mark the only source of concern for Luis Carrión’s side.

In addition, El Pio-Pio saw defender Álex Suárez fail to emerge for the 2nd-half of play, owing to a fitness problem picked up shortly before the interval.

And now, on Wednesday, an insight into as much has been provided.

As per a statement across Las Palmas’ website and social media platforms:

‘Our player Álex Suárez has suffered a sprained ankle (left), which occurred in a game incident in the match between UD Las Palmas and Athletic Club last Sunday at the Gran Canaria Stadium. The estimated time of absence depends on the evolution of the injury.’

Though it remains unclear exactly how long he will be sidelined, Suárez looks certain to miss his side’s trip to Osasuna this coming Saturday.
